This site was started 19 years ago on the premise of luxury and has evolved/devolved into home improvement topics, travel and occasional opinion pieces. This afternoon, I decided to research the most luxurious homes in the United States. Since moving to southwest Florida, I am of course awaiting an invite to Mar a Lago, about which I wrote many years ago. And it is hard to imagine a property more luxurious than Trump’s manse, but here are a couple of possibilities.
Let’s start with “The One,” a mega-mansion located in Bel Air, Los Angeles, California. Developed by Nile Niami, the property spans approximately 105,000 square feet and features 21 bedrooms, 42 bathrooms, a nightclub, a bowling alley, a 50-car garage, a 30-seat home theater, a 10,000-bottle wine cellar, and multiple swimming pools, including a massive infinity pool with panoramic views of the city. The mansion also boasts a full-service spa, a beauty salon, a gym, and a jogging track.
“The One” was initially listed for sale at $500 million, making it one of the most expensive and luxurious private residences ever offered for sale. However, this Bel Air manse was sold at bankruptcy auction in March 2022 for $126 million, significantly below its asking price, due to financial difficulties faced by the developer. This main house features 74,000 square feet (!) and there are 3 guest houses which brings total square footage to 105,000 square feet. This phenomenally luxurious residence has 21 bedrooms, 42 bathrooms, and a primary suite with 5500 square feet. It is fun to imagine the closet space! There is also a 10,000 square foot sky deck with views of both the ocean and San Gabriel Mountains, a putting green, bowling alley, 340-car garage, beauty salon, night club, casino and 5 swimming pools.
Another notable mention is the “Billionaire,” a 38,000-square-foot mansion in Beverly Hills, California, which was listed for $188 million. This residence features 12 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, a 70-foot infinity pool, a 40-seat Dolby Atmos theater, and a 30-car garage.

And then there was record producer, lumber and land baron Tim Blixseth. The prime Yellowstone Club with his luxurious 53,000 square foot home in Bozeman, Montana entered the high end luxury home market at a record-breaking $155 million in 2007. Being promoted fully furnished, this ten-bedroom mountain estate boasted an indoor-outdoor swimming pool, a theater and a gondola to Yellowstone Club’s coveted ski areas. A little over a year later, Blixseth’s luxurious ski resort and property filed for bankruptcy, as the global real estate market sank into a deep depression. In fact, Blixseth was quoted as saying , It’s as if the whole world had a financial heart attack.
But markets breathe in and breath out.
These properties represent the pinnacle of luxury real estate in the United States, offering unparalleled amenities and opulence.
